Dr. Omar Salem, DMD, MS
I have been practicing orthodontics since 1999, but have a lifetime of learning in my profession. My father is a retired orthodontist, and I loved joining him in his office to help organize patient study models and prepare supplies.
I still meet people who were patients of his, and were influenced by his gentle nature and beautiful results. I strive every day to be the best orthodontist I can be for my patients, and to provide a warm and welcoming environment where they feel comfortable.
Education and Continuing Education
I attended Tufts University for my DMD and obtained my Orthodontic specialty from the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY at Buffalo) in 1999. Afterwards, I continued my studies at University of Buffalo, graduating with my Master of Science Degree in 2000.
I served on the faculty body at the department of orthodontics at Buffalo University until 2002, then moved to Tufts University School of Dental medicine where I served as director of the Pre-doctoral Orthodontic Program until 2005. In addition to private practice and teaching, I was honored to publish numerous papers in dental and medical journals dealing with the advancement of orthodontic research, science and technique.

In the Practice
Although my formal education is complete, I am always striving to learn something new in the orthodontic field. Attending continuing education courses and seminars keep me up to date with the latest updates and technology, allowing me to offer my patients the most advanced and predictable techniques. My ultimate goal is to provide my patients with the most efficient and effective orthodontic treatments that result in healthy smiles that last a lifetime and ensures that my patients will always receive the best care possible. I want my patients to attain beautiful, healthy smiles while having a positive treatment experience. I enjoy what I do because I get to have a positive impact on people of all ages. I love working with kids because they are so much fun, and always tell me what's on their mind. Adult patients always teach me something new, and I love exceeding their expectations in treatment.
Local dentists often tell me how happy they are for recommending me to their patients. I appreciate the trust they put in me which led to treating many of the referring dentists children.
Family and Community
I was born and raised in Damascus, Syria, and moved to the USA in 1996. I have been living in Canton since 2001, and love it! My wife, Zeina and I have three children: two boys and one girl. The boys attend Boston College High School where they learn what true citizenship means. My daughter will be starting her 1st grade at the Canton Hanson Elementary school. After work, I enjoy skiing, soccer, landscaping, traveling with my family, watching the Celtics and the Patriots.
My office is a regular proud sponsor of many musical and sport events in local schools, towns and museums. I also volunteer for national organizations such as Unicef, UNHCR, SAMS and Amnesty international. I joined the Karam Foundation in 2009 and have had a chair position since 2013. The Karam Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes lower and higher education for Syrian refugee children and youths. I was fortunate to travel on 8 missions overseas to serve Syrian Refugee children's dental and psychosocial needs in Turkey and Jordan.
